How Does Dry Needling Work?
During your dry needling procedure at BYoung Physical Therapy, we will use a fine sterile needle to penetrate the skin, deactivating myofascial trigger points. Insertion into the muscle with piston action produces a local twitch response in the muscles, releasing the tight bands of muscle fibers and relaxing the muscle.
During your dry needling treatment, you’ll be in a comfortable position, usually lying down. You may feel a slight prick, but when the muscle relaxes, you won’t feel the needle. We’ll treat multiple myofascial trigger points during each treatment session.
Generally, soreness will persist for 4-6 hours following treatment and in some rare cases soreness can persist for a couple of days. Soreness can usually be managed using heat, stretching and over-the-counter medication. Duration of treatment varies from person to person.
